TR’s journey from a rough and plain sports car to a more polished model began with the introduction of the TR4 in 1961. This marked the beginning of the company’s evolution. Giovanni Michelotti was the designer of the TR4, which featured a contemporary bodyshell that brought the vehicle’s look up to date. Additionally, the TR4 included significant chassis upgrades.

 

Important enhancements included rack-and-pinion steering, a larger front and rear track, and an all-synchromesh gearbox, all of which contributed to an overall increase in the vehicle’s driving experience. In addition, the TR3’s simple side displays were replaced with wind-up windows, which constituted a substantial advancement in comparison to the previous generation.

 

The regular 2,138cc four-cylinder overhead-valve engine that was initially offered in the TR3A was the engine that was being used to power the TR4. A top speed of approximately 110 miles per hour was obtained by the TR4 when equipped with the overdrive option. Nowadays, owning and maintaining a four-cylinder TR is a particularly hassle-free experience.
